Blow-dry Your Hair Like the Pros

1. Begin with freshly washed clean hair. Towel-dry your hair and try to get as much water out as you can by either blotting with the towel or wrapping it in the towel for five minutes. This will allow your hair to shape more easily and cut down on blow-drying time.

2. Apply a heat protectant product. Excessive blow-drying can cause severe hair damage and make your hair dry, brittle and frizzy.

3. To get your hair very straight, place a quarter size drop of straightening balm in your palm, rub together and apply evenly to your hair paying close attention to the tips. You can use a comb or fingers to evenly distribute the product.

4. Divide hair into three sections, clipping the sections that you will blow dry last. Select the unclipped section and using a thick round brush begin at the roots, gently brush through the hair while blow-drying. Pull the brush through the underside of your hair so that you expose it directly to the heat of the dryer. Pull hair away from your head, stretching and straightening as you go. Once the underside is mostly dry, switch to the top of the hair. Repeat with the other two sections.

5. Switch to a paddle brush in the final minutes of your blow-dry if you'd like straight ends.

6. Finish off with a cool blast of air. Use the dryer's cool button. The cold air locks the style in place for the day.
