Kid- Diseases and Their Cures

Classes already started here in El Paso, Texas since August 3rd. I would like to share this article I've read from CNN and this is also a topic that DJ Tesh shared in his radio show. This all about kid-diseases that are quite common for kids.

1. Ringworm- It is not an actual worm but it's a fungus that forms a red, itchy, raised circle on the skin. It can also look like a red, scaly patch, like athlete's foot. It likes moist areas and often appears on the skin folds. The ringworm can be spread through locker room benches, damp towels, gym mats, bathing suits and swimming goggles or even by scratching.

You can cure ringworm by: over-the-counter anti-fungal cream or if it last for more than two weeks please consult your doctor.

2. Pin worms- They are tiny white worm about half an inch long that hatch in your intestines. Pin worm eggs get passed on when an infected kid scratches their rear end, and the spreads the egg around as they touch their clothing, door handles and other objects. The pinworm eggs will live up for two weeks giving them time to be picked up and ingested by someone else. It is easy to tell if your kid had pin worms especially if their rear end is itchy especially at night because this is the time when the pin worm is most active or you can even see the worms in their underwear or feces.

You can cure pin worms by calling your doctor. Remember that pinworms are very contagious and your doctor might treat the whole family. You need to make sure that you wash your bedding, stuff animals, towels, underwear and pajamas.

3. Scabies- They are tiny mites that burrow into the skin, mostly on the hands, feet and waist. They can cause intense itching especially at night. The burrows looks like curved scratches and you also see them as tiny black dots- the actual bug-poking out of the end. Scabies can be spread through hugging, towels, clothes, and sheets if one of your family members has them.

You can fix scabies by: getting a prescription lotion from your pediatrician and they may recommend antihistamine to help with the itching. Please make sure to wash your sheets, clothes and bedding that are previously used within 3 days.
