Cydcor Launches Neighborhood Leaders Volunteer Program
Leading global provider of outsourced, face-to-face sales teams makes it
easy for sales offices to give back to their communities through new program
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (October 22, 2008) – Cydcor, the leading provider of outsourced, face-to-face sales teams, has introduced its Neighborhood Leaders Program, a new internal program available to Cydcor’s network of sales offices. The program is designed to assist sales offices in supporting their communities through charity and volunteer work.
Cydcor’s network of nearly 200 independent sales offices located across the United States and Canada will be given financial sponsorships and encouraged to donate their time and talent to non-profit, charitable organizations in their communities. Each independent office is eligible to take advantage of Cydcor’s Neighborhood Leaders Program once annually.
“We’re proud of this new program, and Cydcor wants to support the efforts of current and new sales offices,” said Cydcor President Jim Majeski, “Cydcor believes it’s imperative to not only support the communities in which we live and work, but also to support those communities in which the sales offices thrive.”
In addition to the Neighborhood Leaders Program, earlier this year, Cydcor launched a Volunteer Day benefit for its own team members in which people are paid eight hours annually for time they spend supporting a charitable organization of their choice.
“Cydcor is dedicated to supporting team members and sales office charitable ventures and igniting interest in volunteerism, whether it’s financial or a donation of time,” said Jim Majeski, President of Cydcor. “Our goal is that this philanthropic spirit will continue to be instilled in our team members and becomes ingrained in our culture. It is simply the right thing to do.”

Grocery Shopper Tips
The Cereal Aisle- the cereals that are smack dab in front of you, at eye level, are usually the ones loaded with refined carbohydrates and sugars – because the manufacturers pay extra to have them placed there, since people normally reach for what’s in front of them. Also, beware of the term, “Made with whole grains!” Eating whole grain Cocoa Puffs isn’t much different than the original kind. What you want is a cereal that has at least five grams of fiber per serving. So check the label.
The Bread Aisle- Look for breads that have at least two grams of fiber per slice and list whole wheat or another “whole” grain – like whole oat – as the first ingredient. Also, avoid white bread like the plague. It has next to no nutrients.
Meat Section- Choose “loin” cuts – like sirloin and tenderloin. They’re usually the leanest. Dr. Nestle says make sure you keep portion sizes down to about a quarter of your plate – or three ounces. It might seem small, but it’s just right.
Freezer Section- pass up frozen pizzas, pockets, pastries and anything with “big” or “hungry” on it. They’re usually packed with calories and saturated fat. The ones that are “lean” often have too much sodium in them. If you absolutely MUST grab a frozen meal, just look for a light one that has the least amount of sodium – because your total intake for the day shouldn’t be more than 2,400 milligrams.
So be smart, stick to your diet plan.

Mistakes Parents Make
Here are top mistakes that parents make.
* Spoiling Your Kids- it’s fun to watch your child’s face light up when you give them a new toy, but a lot of well-intentioned parents have ended up spoiling their kids to a point where they aren’t happy with the stuff they have. That can cause kids to never be satisfied with anything and always want more. Plus, if your kids get everything they want, they won’t be prepared to handle it when things DON’T go their way in life.
* Not Being A Good Spouse- If you and your spouse settle every dispute by yelling and screaming at each other, you’re teaching your kids to handle disagreements the same way. Remember: kids learn from watching you much more than they learn from listening to you. So, treat your spouse with love and respect. This goes for divorced parents, too.
* Setting Unrealistic Expectations- If you expect your 5 year old to sit still through a dinner party or you have visions of your son being a star quarterback for the football team, but he loves playing the clarinet – you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Don’t have unrealistic expectations for your kids – the expectation you should have is for them to be happy.
* Not Disciplining Your Kids- If you don’t adequately discipline your kids, you pass their bad behavior on to your relatives, coaches, teachers, and his friends' parents. If you don't discipline your kid, someone else will — and you won't like it.
* The Final Mistake Is Not Following-Through- If you tell your kids they’ll be grounded if they throw water balloons at your neighbor’s house, you need to follow through. You also need to follow through if you promised your kids you’d take them to the park this weekend. If you’re not true to your word, your kids will assume anything you say is just “talk.” You’ll also end up with kids that don’t trust their parents.
This mistakes are not new but still parents have a lot of time to change the pattern.

Laugh,Think and Learn Rolled Into One
Home is the first school for children to learn. I don't have any children at the moment, but I have younger sisters and younger brothers that I took care before. It is very important for children to learn things at a young age.
For instance, I remember that my Mom used to play music for my younger siblings, put DVD tapes so they can watch cartoon movies, helping them learn and memorize children songs and a lot more.
The creator of the "Bop-Along with the Bop-a-Lots" was named Parenting Magazine "DVD of the Year!". They create the characters like Huggy-Bop,Sugar-Bop, and Silly-Bop.
Generally, children are curious, they love to play, and they like to use their imagination. The Bop-a-Lots character will lead your children for a very wonderful journey of discovery and they will learn how to think better.
Bubbling with curiosity, Huggy-Bop- is always eager to try a new game or dance, no matter how difficult it might seem or how awkward he might look. Silly-Bop on the other hand, is full of playfulness and enthusiasm. Last but not the least is Sugar-Bop, she can easily imagines new worlds to visit, new dances to dance and new games to play, making her the natural leader of the group.
Compared to other video products for children, the goal of the Bop-a-Lots series of DVDs is not to teach kids "WHAT" to think, but rather to help them learn "HOW" to think. The Bop-a-Lot series is designed in cooperation with educators to help develop better thinking skills during the crucial first few years of a child's life, thus it is intended to: Encourage and motivate curiosity, playfulness and imagination. Jump-start the ability to see the traditional from new perspectives. And make the exploration of the unfamiliar and the unexpected fun.
It teaches young children thinking skills used by the world's greatest minds. Great minds think alike, and that's actually true. One of the important ways great minds think alike is in their ability to look at the traditional from many different perspectives and generate multiple new ideas and associations. This is actually a skill that is known as the Productive Thinking, and it just happens to be a common trait shared by Edison, Einstein and DaVinci of the world.
By learning "how" to think instead of "what" to think, your child gains an invaluable tool that will prove an advantage throughout his or her life and the Bop-a-Lots series of DVDs will help.
So parents out there, hurry and check this DVD series for the benefits of your young children.
Saying Thank You Means A Lot
I feel happy when people say "thank you" to me. Especially that I have to deal with different kind of people everyday. I feel motivated when people likes what I do and it also helps boost my self-esteem as well.
When people say "thank you" that means that they are very grateful on what you do or it also a sign that they like you as a person. It also helps us to be more grateful and happy for what we have in our life. Counting our blessings and giving thanks to the Lord helps us grow spiritually.
Expressing our gratitude to other people is one way of showing that we are thankful for all the things we received or benefited from them. It is also a sign that you appreciate everything that you have become. Having said that, I commend my parents for teaching me to be grateful all the time especially to those people and appreciate the finer things in life or even the challenges that we have encountered or about to be experienced.

Anger Management
Do You Get Angry? Here's ways to handle your anger:
1. Give your head a vacation- Picture yourself in a calm and serene place. If you can't get there mentally sitting at your desk, step outside for a minute or get a drink of water. It may be cliche, but it works.
2. Create a comfort zone- Bring personal things into your environment at work that make you happy, like a picture of your dog, or a card that a friend sent you. These things will help remind you that you have a life outside of the office.
3. Talk it out- Give yourself at least half an hour to calm down, then talk to the person who's upsetting you. But use forward thinking statements like, "how can we prevent this from happening again." Look for a solution, not revenge.

Press Release:
Autism Support Network Launches, Offers Free Online Support Community
Thousands around the world already connecting, sharing guidance and help
October 21, 2008. Autism Support Network today announced the launch of its free online support community available at www.AutismSupportNetwork.com. The online service – rapidly growing with already thousands of members around the world – connects families and individuals touched by autism spectrum disorder (ASD) with each other, provides support and insight, and acts as a resource guide for treatments, strategies and therapies.
Key features of the community include matching those members seeking similar support with one another, the ability to create appointments virtually or in actual locations between members, community groups for open sharing of information, user blogs, chat and capabilities for members to host and share personal photos and documents. The Autism Support Network also includes resource listings across the United States, Canada, England and India.
"Parents frequently feel paralyzed and isolated when they discover their child has autism. Those adults who have autism themselves also frequently find it difficult to engage socially with others for support," said Brian Field, co-founder of Autism Support Network. "Whether you’re a parent whose child has autism, a medical practitioner or someone with autism, our global community was created to facilitate an exchange of ideas, help and interactive discussion. Those dealing with ASD needn't have to 're-invent the wheel' – they can find others here that have likely experienced what they’re going through and can help provide personal guidance."
Today 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism, with a new case diagnosed every 20 minutes and is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States today. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined. Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. Other ASDs include Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (usually referred to as PDD-NOS). Males are four times more likely to have autism than females.

Creating A Happier Home!
1. Provide Order and Stability- Kids need a routine so they feel calm and reassured. A predictable daily schedule, clear rules, and an organized house make both you and your children more relaxed and comfortable. So when crises do occur, kids know there’s a part of life that won’t change. A calm bedtime routine is a good start.
2. Hold Family Meetings- That way everyone knows they’ll have a certain time when they can talk about something that’s bothering them, or share good news. It’s also a good time to plan for the week ahead and avoid last minute anxiety over whether they have a ride to a music lesson or new soccer shoes for practice.
3. Create Rituals- Setting aside special times of the day or week to come together as a family gives kids a sense of continuity. Some families observe religious rituals while others make up their own, like pizza and scrabble on Friday nights. Rituals give children things to look forward to.
4. Parents should encourage loving feelings in their children- Studies have shown that parents who spend time playing, joking with, and sharing their own thoughts with their kids have children who are more friendly, generous, and loving. So, take time to just hang out together, and insist that children treat others with kindness and respect - especially their siblings.
5. Schedule Parent-Only Time- When you’re upset about bills, or you get angry you’re your spouse, you create an atmosphere that kids might find upsetting. So, take a long walk without the kids and schedule regular dates to help soothe your worries and recreate the love that brought you together in the first place. When you’re happy, you’ll be a much better parent to your children.
I really have a close bond with my big family back in the Philippines. We always have Monday's as our Family Home Evening. We used to discuss topics and we also have time to share our talents and my mother used to cook special dish every Monday. We actually share our plan for the whole week and then share what we need to do.
I remember that my mother make a list of schedule for us to follow. For example if who will be the one to wash the dishes, fold the blankets, wash the clothes, prepare the table and so on. As the oldest child, I usually help my younger brothers and sisters with their assignment and then teach them how to read and do math.
I admire my parents for being so diligent in keeping our home a happier one for all of us. I am very pleased with their good examples.

Read My Lips!
Obviously the weather in El Paso, Texas is changing already. And first thing, first hand that I noticed is that my lips are all dry and chap. It hurts when I smile or laugh or every time liquid gets near my lips for example when I am drinking water and sodas and juices.
So I decided to buy petroleum gel because the other chap sticks that I used was not working at all. It irritates more and my lips are all red and feels like its burning. Likewise, my skin are all dry and itchy. Its really bad when its cold. I have to buy those menthol lotion or for dry and itchy body lotion. Hopefully, my dry and chap lips will heal quickly.

Is It Safe To Have Caller ID?
Caller I.D.’s a great technology that lets you know who’s on the phone before you pick up. But is it always truthful? Not necessarily.
According to the Associated Press, hackers have gotten into the system. And they can make somebody else's name or number show up on your phone. It’s called “spoofing” – and it can be dangerous.
For example, a spoofer could pretend to be your bank or credit card company, and ask for your PIN number or password. Or a spoof er could pretend to be your cell phone company, so they can get the code for your voicemail box and listen to your messages.
So what can you do about it?
Be suspicious! Never give out sensitive information to anyone who calls. Remember - your bank, credit card company, and utility providers already have your information in their computer. So, why would they need to call you to get it?
Better safe than sorry....Remember guard yourself...

Yes, Its Cold
For the past few days its been really cold here in Texas. I haven't had the chance to wash our winter clothes that I put away on our storage room. Hopefully, by the end of the week I will have the chance to do so.
Its really hard when both of you husband and wife have to work full time but oh well that's life right? We both have been working a lot lately, I only have one day off at my working place and my husband actually works a lot.
Anyways, I am happy that I still have a job you know since a lot of business establishments here have been shut down due to the economic condition in the US. Its been really bad for this past months. You can't hardly see people anymore at those fancy restaurants or even in the mall. Unless, there are some kind of discounted sales during holidays or so.
I like Winter Season because I can play with the snow and everything but the only bad thing about it is that I still haven't adjusted to the cold weather. Well, I just need to make sure to thoroughly wrap myself, maybe about 3 sweaters and 3 pairs of socks and then a warm jacket, I bet that would work for me.

Decoding Your Body Language
Here are some common body actions people do unconsciously, and what they could be announcing to the world – whether you mean it or not.
1. Leg Cross- Crossing your legs is literally a sign that you’re closing yourself off from a person – emotionally and physically. That’s why it’s the last thing you want to see on a date! In a job interview, crossing your legs appears overly assertive and egotistical.
2. Arm Cross- Like the leg cross, folding your arms in front of your chest is a way of putting a literal barrier between yourself and other people. It’s usually a sign of disapproval. So, if you’re having a disagreement with someone, but you want to appear open minded and approachable, speak with your arms at your sides, or gesture with your palms open.
3. Arm Grip- Think of this as a partial arm cross – with one arm at your side, and the other across your chest. Our body language expert says this is a leftover gesture from our childhood, when we used to hold a parent’s hand to feel safe. By gripping some part of your own body, you send the message that you’re nervous about something, or insecure.
4. Fidgeting- Most people fidget when the two sides of their brain aren’t being occupied equally. For example: In a business meeting, your left brain may be tuned in to logical information from the boss, but your right brain is craving creative stimulation. So, you start tapping your finger, or bouncing your leg. Unfortunately, those movements can signal boredom to your co-workers. So, to ward off unwanted attention, try doodling quietly on a note pad or actually take notes!
5. Touching your face- Frequently touching your forehead, nose and cheek during a conversation is usually a sign of lying! Experts say when we lie, we release histamine which makes us itchy. So if you’re talking to someone who can’t stop rubbing their nose, or smoothing their brow, it may mean they’re nervous because they’ve got something very significant to hide.
Pretty exciting huh? Check it yourself and see if which of these Body Language you normally used or do.

Ways on Keeping Yourself On The Payroll List
We all know that our economy is not good right now. A lot of business establishments are closing down. That means a lot of people will be out of work. Here are the tips on how to make yourself outshine everyone if you want to keep your job and stay on your current employer and continue to enjoy your salary.
1. Dress well- It’s true: You are what you wear. So, if you look sloppy or unprofessional, your manager will think that’s how you approach everything.
2. Put a cap on complaining- Think about it, if you had to cut staff, who would you keep? The complainer - or the person who makes other people in the office feel good? Office morale is something that can’t be faked. So make sure you do your part to keep spirits high.
3. Go on a news diet while you're at work- Every time we hear about an event, our brain reacts as if it’s new information. So it’s no surprise that listening to the same bad news on three different stations makes you uneasy - your brain thinks it’s happened three times! You don’t want to project an uneasy attitude at work. So don’t overdo it when reading the headlines.
4. If you start to hear lay-off rumors, tell your boss why you want to stay. After a downsizing happens, the people who are left have to take on more work to make up for the reduced staff. So, tell your manager that you’ll be happy to put in extra effort whenever needed - because you enjoy what you do.
So instead of worrying your job, make yourself busy and useful at work rather than thinking of losing it. The more you worry about getting laid-off the more you are less useful at work. Always have a positive attitude about everything.

Quit Smoking Before Its Too Late
Well, cigarettes affect every cell in your body. In fact, there are 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke. Smoking not only increases your risk for at least 15 types of cancer, it causes at least 30 percent of cancer deaths. This will happened to your body if you don't quit smoking now.
1. Smoke inundates your lips, mouth, nose, sinuses, and throat as you inhale and exhale. They get exposed again when you cough up the chemicals trapped in the mucus in your lungs.
2. The moment you inhale, your lungs are filled with carcinogens and chemicals. Which are then absorbed by your airways, tissues, and protective layers of mucus.
3. You swallow contaminated saliva when you smoke. So your esophagus, stomach and intestines are slime with toxic chemicals that seep into your bloodstream.
4. Cigarette toxins invade all of your organs; especially your pancreas and kidneys, which filter your blood and your bladder, where the chemicals sit until they are expelled. That’s why smoking is the number risk-factor for developing bladder cancer.
5. For women if you smoke, the toxins accumulate in your cervix. Making you twice as likely to develop cervical cancer.
6. The toxins seep into your bone marrow, affecting the development of white blood cells, which raises your odds of contracting leukemia.

Making Your Home A Cockroach-Free
Do you have any experience seeing cockroaches that are scattered on your kitchen? Do you think you are a bad housekeeper? Actually, cockroaches are not attracted to messy household contrary to what we believed. But theoretically speaking, they’re just looking for warmth, moisture, and darkness are around your household.
Here are ways to get rid of cockroaches at home:
1. Figure out where the cockroach lives- Experts recommend setting out roach traps coated with sticky glue. The more heavily-trafficked strips will be closest to their nest. Also, check around for droppings, egg sacs, and the exoskeletons that roaches shed as they grow.
2. Get Rid of hiding places and bait- Toss out piled newspapers, cardboard boxes, paper bags, and general clutter. Store fruits, vegetables and bread in airtight containers and clean your stove, oven and microwave, paying extra attention to grease. Because even small spots are like cockroach candy.
3. Cockroaches need water more than food- So look for places that collect water, like plants, or the drip plate under your fridge. Also, put stoppers over your drains, and make sure your faucets have screens so the cockroaches can’t crawl in through the plumbing.
4. Fill any cracks- near nesting areas with a flexible caulk that prevents cockroaches from getting through.
5. Ditch the cockroach spray-They’re known as “contact repellents” – meaning the poison must be sprayed on a roach to kill it. Instead, get boric acid powder, and lightly dust it in the cracks you can't seal, and under sinks and appliances, and behind cabinets. The bugs walk through it, ingest it, and die within hours and it won’t hurt pets or people.

Reason Babies Cry
Babies cry for many reasons. From a fear of strangers to dirty diapers to simply being hungry! Here are five of more reasons why baby cries.
1. They're too hot- As the weather gets cooler, you may feel tempted to bundle your baby with enough layers to warm an icicle! That’s because most parents guess a baby’s comfort by touching their hands or cheeks. Too many layers will cause overheating! So to correctly gauge a baby’s core temperature, pediatricians recommend feeling their tummy or back.
2. They're too stressed- Even when they’re just kicking back, chewing on a pacifier, babies are very sensitive to things like noise, bright light, and movement. Every child has a different breaking point where too much commotion causes the waterworks to flow. So, introduce new people and toys in small doses and always leave room for some quiet time after a busy day, so your stressed out baby can relax.
3. They're feeling pinched- Unfortunately, a baby can’t tell you when a stray hair is tangled around their toes or when a car-seat belt is too tight for comfort. One loose thread wrapped around a finger is all it takes to cut off a baby’s delicate circulation and cause permanent tissue damage! So, whenever you change your baby, inspect their tiny fingers and toes, to make sure they can move freely.
4. They're lonely- Experts say that babies start to realize they’re a separate person from their mother somewhere between 6 and 9 months old. That realization leads to a lot of crying whenever they see Mom leave the room even for a second! Fortunately, most babies outgrow this separation anxiety by the time they’re 15 months old.
5. They're bored- Spending an hour on the same high chair, in the same kitchen, looking at the same 4 walls every day is the baby equivalent of you sitting in an office cubicle! In other words, it’s not much fun. So, move your baby around the house as much as possible. They’ll appreciate a change of scenery just as much as you would.

Breastfeeding Tips
For newly Mommies out there I hope this post will be of great help for all of you out there.
Here are the tips if you are breastfeeding your child:
1. Get comfortable before starting. Sitting upright in an armchair or rocking chair is a common position. Sitting in bed is very okay, as long as your back , shoulders and knees are well supported.
And the baby also should be comfortable with this position.
The most common position for breastfeeding are:
Cradle Hold- The baby's head will rest in the crook of your elbow or on your forearm, and will be supported with you arm beneath her back and your hand on the baby's thigh or bottom.
Football Hold or Clutch Position- The baby lies on his back between your side and flexed arm. The baby's head is supported with your hand , allowing your other hand to hold the breast if necessary.
Side-Lying Position- Learning to nurse your baby lying down is invaluable. The side-lying position is relaxing and can help you get more, much needed sleep. You can use it to nurse your baby at night or to nap-nurse during the day. This position can also benefit for those Mom's who had a cesarean delivery.
2. When experiencing common problems such as swollen breast, nursing is actually the best way to alleviate it. Taking warm to hot showers can also soften your breasts, allowing you to breastfeed more comfortably.
3. Soreness in the nipples can be signal that something is not right and you may need to make a change in technique.

Managing Your Hunger
These are tips and ways on how to manage your weight. But first you have to make sure to manage your hunger.
I have a free subscription from Kraft Magazines and one of the article that I would like to share for all the people that visit my blog are the tips to stay on track if you are very articulate with your weight. Here are the tips:
1. Slow Down- Your body takes about 20 minutes to signal it's had enough food. Leafy green salads take awhile to eat; giving your body enough time to recognize it's satisfied.
2. Break the Fast- Eating morning meal makes it less likely you'll overeat during the rest of the day.
3. Make room for snacks in your diet- Foods with fiber and or protein- whole fruits, cheese, whole grain crackers, nuts, peanut butter- will help keep you from feeling famished between meals.
4. Choose foods with lots of water- You can reduce hunger by eating foods that have a high water content- whole fruits, whole vegetables and broth-based soups.
5. Stay calm- Develop ways to cope with stress so you're less likely to overeat.
Before, I usually don't eat breakfast but after I read this article, I tried to eat breakfast and it actually works. I don't crave so much food during lunch or dinner. I eat snacks in between, most of the time I bring fruits at my working place. As much as we can, my husband and I tried to eat healthy food. Most of the food we eat is either bake or steam food. Although, there are times that we loose track on eating healthy food, but it doesn't mean that we can't go back on eating healthy food again.

Real Age Does Matter
For most people when it comes to asking about their real age often times they get mad at you for being disrespectful or tactless as they say. Since I work in a restaurant I always meet people whom I think is very old because of their physical appearance and can be considered a Senior Citizen age.
Well, before I used to asked them if what is exactly their age before I can give them a 10 percent discount of the food that they order, but I have learned my lesson not to asked them again. Most of the time, they will say I'd rather not tell you what my age is or they always say, why do you want to know?
Now, I don't really bother to ask their age every time I see older people at the store. I will wait that they will be the one to tell me or asked me if they can avail the 10 percent Senior Discount that we have for the food that they order.
And then I found this website about RealAge Test. I was very excited and I even try it myself.
Actually, my age based on my birth date is 26 years old. I was speechless after I took the RealAge Test when I found out that my body's biological age was 24.5 years old , I was really surprised and I can't even believed it until now.
My real age is younger because I do not routinely take any medicines. The real explanation is that the more medicines we take, the greater chance that one may cause harms or counteracts the intended benefit of another medication.
This RealAge Test website is good for people that are health conscious or even for people who want to know about their biological age of their body.
Take the RealAge Test! It's free! Try now and be surprised to see your real age result.
Homeless in America!
For two years since I arrived and lived here in the US I've noticed that there's a lot of homeless people begging for assistance in the form of money and food on the street everyday that we drove around the city.
Most of them have card boards with a written explanation for example are:
Homeless and Hungry
Homeless War Veteran
Need Food or Stranded
I never thought that I will see people like that on the street. I thought it only applies to a Third World country to which I came from. I realized now that poverty does not only apply to a Third World country like Philippines for example. We were taught or influenced by the things that we read and saw on the television that we may end up thinking that First World countries like America don't have any homeless or poor people on the street begging for money everyday of their lives.
Some people might be doing that in order for them to support their addiction. But I just can't believed that one way or another everywhere you go or travel there will always be homeless people around the corner.
As an individual who come from a middle class family in the Philippines, I've seen people or know people there, that can only eat one meal a day, they never had the chance to go to school because they are not able to finance their education although there's a lot of public school in the Philippines but still there are some school fees that are needed to be paid before a student can take their major exams.
Although we are not rich nor that poor but still my parents work really hard so they can provide the basic needs for the whole family. I came from a big family so it is very challenging everyday for my parents to support us for our studies, food, clothes etc...etc. My mother works in the local government from the city where I came from and my father used to work also as a government employee but due to some circumstances he was laid off from work.
We don't have the same opportunities as what the people in America have. For instance, you can get financial aids or loans here so you can continue your studies and eventually get your degree. In the Philippines, we cannot get loans nor financial aid from school, unless you are a working scholar student meaning you have to work at the school and maintain a grade point average or if you are an Academic Scholar which you have to maintain a much higher grade point average.
I don't really understand why there are still a lot of homeless people here when in fact the government have given them a lot of resources so they can lived a normal life. They even have Food Stamps, they have agencies where you can go and will help you find a job and even give you money for your fares and food cost while looking for a job. I think its cool but if people are not willing to do this process to get out on the street and have decent jobs then there's no way that they will be able to improved their status in life.

Sense of Sight
My husband had been wearing his eyeglass since he was 13 years old. I know that without his eyeglass he is not capable of driving the car or barely capable of driving it. His eyeglass is really important for him to do his daily activities.
Both NASA and the U.S. military uses LASIK technology to improve the vision of specialized personnel facing extreme, physically demanding conditions. It is very important for military people to have perfect eyesight so they can rely with their own sense of sight. It is a MUST for them to have a crystal clear vision in order for them to succeed with their mission.
My husband started reading about LASIK information to see if he can afford it in the future. He is tired of wearing eyeglasses that's why he is considering undergoing ILASIK procedure in the near future. He was checking also to see if the recovery is fast enough for him to go back to work or if the procedure is painless. He wants to make sure that the procedure can benefit him in the long run.
But I told him that ILASIK procedure is proven effective, both NASA and the Military can attest to that. He is more confident now to consider future eye surgery with LASIK technology

Why do toddlers bite?
During the ages of 12 months to 3 years old, children seem to bite for a reason. Although, I am not a mother yet, but I am the oldest among 12 children so I have notice this pattern from my younger sisters down to my younger brothers.
Unfortunately, we can't read their minds, however, there may be many reason that they respond this way. For some children they used their mouth as a form of sensory exploration. One reason can be teething, in which children don't even know they are hurting another person. Another can be because they see other kids biting other kids. Sometimes when they see another toddler bite they learn to imitate the action. They might used this to get the attention of their parents or used as communication. Biting occurs out of frustration, fatigue or stress.
Is there anyway we can do to stop them from biting? Although we know supervision is crucial but it is strictly needed in order for us to achieved on stopping this biting behavior. If possible, redirect the child and remain physically close to the biter. Help toddlers to express with words and gestures their needs and wants.
When your toddler bites, immediately attend to the victim to provide comfort and care and then respond to the biter and explain that "No biting, Biting hurts". You may do redirection by putting your toddler to time out or provide something more appropriate for the mouth.
Remember parents:
1. Never bite a child back to show that biting hurts. This will send a confusing message to your toddler.
2. Do not respond in a harsh verbal manner. Take note parents, biting at this age; is appropriate. Your job as a parents,or adults is to teach that biting is not acceptable. Practice what you teach.

Busted On The Road
Well, after we eat our dinner last night, we went to Wal-mart to buy laundry soap since we are out of it and we still have about two loads to go before we are finished doing our laundry. As I said earlier on my other post , we were at my father-in-laws house doing our laundry.
So my husband was driving our car and then before we can passed the other stop sign, we already saw some lights from a police car , you can actually tell because it was red and blue kind of color. I was telling my husband to slow down and see if what's going on because we saw about 4 cars that were stopped. I was even telling him, you see that's what happened to those drivers who are careless on the road and does not follow road signs and speed limits. Without any idea that we will also be stopped. Before we can react, we saw a policeman who jumps on his car and drive ahead of us. It was our car and then there's another car behind us. The police man yell and said stop there and go to the other lane. We were like what? and I told my husband please stop....
We were there waiting for the cop to come and tell us if what we have done wrong or if we violate any traffic signs or rules on the street. Then my husband told me not to unbuckle my seatbelt and just to stay put. Finally the police came and asked my husband if he can see his driver's license and then his car insurance. Thank goodness he has everything on his comparment as he usually leave his car insurance card at home.
The police told him, did you know why I stopped you? And my husband said, I am sorry Sir I really have no idea why you stopped us. Then the police said, your supposed to completely stopped or slow down when you see that there are police car on the street or you can switched lane because you might runned me over while I am talking to the other person on the car that we stop ahead of you.
The police officer told us that he will be back, and I was telling my husband I hope he will not give us a ticket you know. He came back in a little while and told us that next time if we see anything like that again, all we have to do is switched lane. My husband was like I am really sorry Sir, I will remember that for next time, and we left after that.
Lesson learned, we must obey all traffic laws.

Human Billboards
This is the first time that I saw an ad using a human body parts. For me it is a very peculiar idea to use a bald headed head or a head that is actually shaven just for the sole purpose of advertising their site. All those who qualify will be shaved and at the back of their heads there will be a temporary tattoo to serve as cranial billboards in Los Angeles as part of the airline’s marketing campaign promoting life-changing journeys to www.airnewzealand.com
You can see at the back of their head the temporarily tattoo that says:
The contest is open to everyone who is willing to have their heads shaved. For instance, my husband would be a great candidate for this casting, see for yourself.
On the other hand, I am also an immigrant here in the United States of America about two years ago. It was really a big change for me because I lived in the Tropical country which is the Philippines. I never thought of migrating to another place especially from far away country like America but I am happy, that I am here together with my husband. Although I have a difficulty adjusting with the environment, the weather, the food, and especially that I am not used to be away with my big family back in the Philippines but still I am thankful that I am here. It was very hard, but I am just happy my husband helps me get through those adjustment periods.
So for those of you out there that are interested and wanting to get a chance to fly to New Zealand all you have to do is check their site for further details.

Super Yummy Dinner
My husband's Dad left this morning to attend a wedding ceremony at Dallas, Texas. Well, he told my husband that we can come to his house to do whatever we want as long as we keep the house neat and clean.
We went at my father-in-laws house last night and we were bringing our dirty clothes so we can also washed there. This also one way of saving our money by doing the laundry at my father-in-laws house instead of doing at our laundry room at our apartment complex.
I haven't cooked any food at our apartment last night ,and then my husband Tony decided to make our dinner. He looks extra cute because he was wearing an apron. He was making Steaks with String beans and french fries. My husband's specialty when it comes to cooking includes homemade cheese burgers and homemade french fries or home made beef stew.
We both enjoy our meal...

Did You Know That.....
A typical 12 ounce of soda contains the equivalent of 10 teaspoon of sugar. Water on the hand has no sugar and by replacing one soda daily with water can cut 3,650 teaspoon of sugar a year from your diet.
I myself love soda and especially that I have easy access on soda at my working place. Most of the time I usually alternate water and soda every other day or I drink freshly squeeze lemonade that my hubby makes.

Are you in or are you out?
Well, the election here in the United States of America is fast approaching. I am wondering if the Americans are prepared to vote. Who are you voting for? The Republican Presidential candidate John McCain or Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama.
It is in fact very tiring to watch all the their political advertisement on the TV. But on the other hand, it is far more important to vote for the person whom you think will do best as a leader in this country rather than voting because he is part of the party where your loyalty lies with.
So America are you ready? Think a million times before you vote, your decision is highly important so please vote wisely....

Go For It Hubby!
I just arrived from work and I am waiting for my husband to come home from working at the school district. Later on tonight, he will be taking his one on one seminar with this guy from the Pedro Sauer Brazillian Jiu Jitsu School. I will be recording his practical test with our video camera for future reference. So hopefully, my husband will do well. I am very proud of what he does. He's been into Martial Arts for over 13 years now.
My husband have a Nidan in Judo (which is second black belt), and he is currently teaching at the Marty Robins Recreation Park. He is currently doing Brazillian Jiu Jitsu right now and will try to get a belt to certify him as a teacher for that style. He is into Escrima/Arnis and is a member of the Decuerdas Escrima with Master Van Donk and he have his Green Belt (9th kyu) and will be testing for his 8th Kyu. He is a certified teacher for Jeet Kune Do.
He has its own collection of Martial Arts Videos and Martial Arts Books. So pretty much this is what he likes to do and hoping to open up his own Martial Arts School in the future.

Never Ending Chores!
Today was extra busy at work, I have to work for 8 hours without a break because one of my co-worker was absent because her daughter is sick. Anyways, I am just exhausted right now and I just want to sit and rest.
But oh well, I can't really help myself because when I arrived in the house, it was a little bit messy and honestly it irritates me. My husband was not able to load the dirty dishes in the dish washer because he went with his Dad and his sister somewhere.
So here I am washing the dishes, cleaning the kitchen and cleaning the living room. Although I make sure that I always clean everyday but there is just things that I noticed that I don't like that's why I still have to do it, even though I am really tired from work.
Well, it makes me feel better and more relaxed if our apartment is very neat and clean. I am tired but I feel happy and accomplished today. Indeed, time is gold!

Cheapest Gas Ever!
We are very happy that the price of gas in El Paso, Texas per gallon went down to $3.25. The highest gas price that we have here so far for this year was $3.99 per gallon.
My husband usually put $30 for our car and it will last for 5 to one week, although it depends if we drive a lot for that whole week. We always put gas during nighttime because "they always says that when you put gas at night you will end up having more gas" its connected with the temperature or so.
A few months back we always make sure that if we went driving somewhere else and if we need something for that day or for the week , we only have to travel on one occasion to save gas. We also have nearby Family Dollar Store so when we need something we just go there and walk.
Hopefully, it will continue to go down because if it happens that it will continue to decrease the prices of gasoline that means that we can also save a few bucks extra for gasoline expenses.
A little update about the price of gas here in El Paso, Texas. From $3.25 it drops to $2.99 a gallon yesterday October 16, 2008.

The New Face of BOND's Girl Is...........
Gemma Arterton who play as Agent Fields in next month's Quantum of Solace is an English beauty. She is a graduate of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art who was best known for a BBC adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles," beat out 1,500 contenders to become the latest Bond girl.
She admitted that while kissing Daniel Craig on her first day of working on the film, she were "giggling left, right, and center and being really immature."
She is very peculiar in a way because she was born with six fingers on each hand and was also born with a crumpled ear, which was surgically corrected during her childhood.
As for myself, I will be waiting for the Jame's Bond "Quantum of Solace" movie to be launched at our movie theater next month....

I've Marked My 2 Year Anniversary in the US today..
Today will be my second anniversary since I arrived and reside in the US. Although we arrived in El Paso, Texas on the 8th of October 2006 but my port of entry from Philippines was in Los Angeles, California.
A lot of things happened to me since I arrived here and my journey begins here. First, I got hitched with my long time boyfriend online and we will be celebrating our second year wedding anniversary pretty soon. Then we file for my adjustment of status to be able to continue and lived in the United States of America and was granted a two year conditional permanent residence. Eventually, next year we will be doing another process of my papers to lift up the condition of my permanent residence card commonly known as the "Green Card". Then I was able to land a job which I enjoy a lot. And finally, I received my evaluated transcript and it open so much opportunity for me to practice my degree from the Philippines here in the US.
I am having fun learning to speak and write in Spanish.I also learned to drive although I haven't gotten my license - darn it! but oh well hopefully before this year end I'll be able to have it. I already acquired a taste for Mexican foods which at first makes me cry because it was totally different food that I used to eat in the Philippines. I am very happy that my husband loved Filipino foods.
Over all I have a good time living in the United States minus not seeing my family back in the Philippines. Eventually, we will be visiting them and that's a promised from the bottom of my heart.

Soul Calibur 2
We were playing Soul Caliber last night for Game Cube. I have a lot of fun since I am not really into video games. My husband invited me to go play video game with him at our living room. So I said to myself alright, let's give it a shot and see if I will know how to play it.
He almost have every kind of video game system from PS2 to PS3 , to XBOX-360 , Game Cube,Dream Cast, Nintendo 64 and other Nintendo system. He plans to buy Wii for myself. He does not play video game that much due to his hectic schedule at school and his work.
He told me that there will be another Soul Caliber that will be release anytime soon. So he's excited to get a copy of that!

I Super Love Music
When I am tired from work and I'll be alone in the house I always listen to music, sing and dance with the rhythm. It is already embedded in my life. Music for me is like breathing. If I don't listen to music I get crazy. If I were to choose between listening to music and watching television, it is for sure that I will choose to listen to music rather than watching TV, although there are times that I also love to watch shows on the TV. I guess it depends on my mood.
I grow up singing in front of my family, friends and relatives. Both of my parents are good singers. One of my talent is singing it sounds like I am very proud of that but its true. Most of my family members are part of our Church Choir. Some of us are sopranos and altos and some are tenor and base.
We all love karaoke. We always help trained my younger sisters and brothers to learn to hit the note correctly at a young age. I play the small guitar, my other sister Elaine play the regular Guitar and my other sister Evonne play the flute. I had piano lessons before and I plan to continue that sometime soon.
When I listened to music, I feel great. I feel relieve and happy. I love the music of Josh Groban, Enya, Celine Dion and many more. I usually love slow music, love songs, Filipino Songs, Church Songs.
When I feel sad and lonely, I always listened to music. It heals me, it relaxes and it inspires me.
Music is a part of me no matter what. I even love when my husband sings to me. And we always do karaoke, whenever my sister-in-law and her family come to visit us.

Count Your Blessings
Due to some problems that we may have in our every day life, we may tend to disregard all the blessings that we already enjoy. For instance, the love from our family, good health, having a peaceful and sound mind and for having wonderful friends around us. This are the things that money cannot buy.
If only we have time to think and meditate about the positive things that happened in our life, we will be overwhelmed with all the blessings we already have.
We need to work to support ourselves. We always need money for most everything that we do. But in the midst of chaos, worries, sadness, desperation, frustration and a lot more we need to stepped back and start to think about all the positive and wonderful things that you have. Be happy for what you have and be contented. My husband always encouraged me to be happy and grateful especially when I am emotionally stressed out.
Being happy does not mean that you will always have a lot of money. Even people who had money are still not happy. Think about that? You may now start to count your blessings and put it on a piece of paper for a reminder of how blessed you are as a person.

Nationality Versus Ethnicity
I decided to research about the difference between Ethnicity and Nationality. But first I would like to give the definition of the word Ethnicity.
Ethnicity- A subgroup that shares a common ancestry, history, or culture.
While the definition of Nationality is- The status of belonging to a particular nation, by origin, birth, or naturalization.
For some reason not all people can actually differentiate the difference between the two when they are asked. For example, when I was ask if my husband is American or not. My answer was Yes, He is American. And the other people eventually will ask another question, How come he is American when in fact he is non-Caucasian or White as mostly used to describe a Caucasian person. My answer is that He is American because he was born and was raised in America. And all people in America are called Americans by nationality or citizenship, unless they are living in the USA illegally of course.
Then I have to sight more examples like: If you are living in the Philippines and were born and raised there then your nationality is Filipino. Just like people who were born in France and resident in France then their nationality is French. Or people who were born and raised in Canada are called Canadians.
So that they can understand more I actually tackle my husband's ethnic background. I will explain to them that his origin is Hispanic or Mexican or Latino. Although His ethnic background is Mexican, Hispanic, or Latino, but because he was born and raised in America he is American by nationality. Furthermore, White or Caucasian Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans, and so on, are all Americans. Native Americans actually being the one ethnicity that can claim "American" as their ethnicity because they were the original inhabitants of the United States. This is the same when it comes to Filipinos, if their descendants are Chinese, Malay, European, etc. and are citizens of the Philippines, then they too are Filipinos.
