My other sister-in-law and her boyfriend went to Hawaii for their summer vacation last Wednesday. She informed my father-in-law that the weather was really bad since they arrived in Hawaii because of the tropical storm Felicia. They were supposed to visit and have a tour in one of the volcanos in Hawaii but they have to cancel the trip.
She also purchase 1 case of bottled water, canned goods and other important things. She was very disappointed because instead of having fun in the beach they have to stay at their hotel and wait until the weather gets back to its normal pace.

I have been to Hawaii (Mauii) and I was not fond of it myself.
It was all about golfing. I was so not into golfing.
The trade winds every day did not make being at the beach fun with all of the sand blowing.
It was terribly expensive and I also noticed a strong political er from the locals as they were not happy about all of the immigrants trying to buy up all the hotels.
This was about 15 years ago ..things may have changed. It is a long way for Canadian to travel to not have a good time.
I can understand your families complaints totally.
