Facts About Swine Influenza

Swine Flu- is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. Swine influenza viruses may circulate among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter months similar to outbreaks in humans.

Q:Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?

Answer:
People cannot catch swine flu while eating pork or other pork products.
Swine influenza viruses are not transmitted by food. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork to an internal temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.

Q: Is there a vaccine for swine flu?

Answer:
Vaccines are available to be given to pigs to prevent swine influenza. There is no vaccine to protect humans from swine flu. The seasonal influenza vaccine will likely help provide partial protection against swine H3N2, but not swine H1N1 viruses.

I have read this article at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

We Had A Blackout!

Tony picked me up at work around 11:30 evening and we drove to Wal-mart to return a movie at the Red box inside the store. While we were driving back to our apartment, my husband was asking me if I saw a big flash of lights; I said yes I did, and shortly after that the lights went out. Instead of going to our apartment, we drove again around the East side of El Paso City to see if what was going on. All the traffic lights went out and drivers were very careful when passing through the next street.

This morning my husband checked the news online to see what's going on. We found out that a vehicle hit an electrical transmission pole in Soccoro, Texas. The crash caused several power lines to cross, and the system went into an automatic shut-down mode to avoid burning up.

As a result, residents as far as west as Santa Teresa, New Mexico and as far as east Fabens, Texas and Tornillo, lost power.

My Thoughts Are With You

We went for a Thanksgiving get together at my in-laws house and were discussing about the terrorist attack in Mumbai India which is the business capital of India. I feel very bad for all the people that were taken hostage especially the ones that are killed and wounded. Supposedly, the group of terrorist attack seven places, they started attacking last Wednesday. They are targeting foreign nationals who are American, British and Canadians.

They killed at least 125 people all together and still counting and wounded 327. They have been attacking the Taj Mahal Hotel, Oberoi Hotel, Jewish Center, Cama Hospital, Chabad House, Cafe Leopold, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station.

I hope this chaos will stop and let peace prevail!

Goodwill Employee Finds $7,000!

GLEN CARBON, Ill. – This stacks up among the better finds at a Goodwill store: $7,500 in cash stuffed in a shoebox. A recent Bulgarian immigrant found the money during her first day on the job last week at a Goodwill near St. Louis in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Teodora Petrova didn't hesitate after finding the cash with a pair of donated shoes — she turned the money over to a manager who told executives for the nonprofit charity.

The president and chief executive of the area's Goodwill organization says it's eager to find the owner of the money. The charity figures it may have been left with the shoes accidentally.

If the owner isn't found, Goodwill says the money will go toward the charity's job-placement efforts.

Fast Forward and December is almost Here!

It feels so good to be back on my blog. I haven't really had the time to update my blogs since January because I have been quite busy. T...
