1. Rice pudding can even out your blood sugar levels- Rice pudding is made with a dash of cinnamon, which is enough to activate your insulin receptors, and reduce unhealthy fluctuations in blood sugar levels by 29%. That alone helps prevent irritability, and makes it less likely you’ll need an afternoon nap.
2. Hot chocolate. Why? Because it helps protect your teeth! The tannins in hot chocolate counteract the teeth-rotting properties of sugar. Cocoa beans also contain theobromine – a chemical that hardens the calcium on your teeth. In fact, studies show it’s better than fluoride at preventing cavities.
3. Also, gingerbread helps you warm up faster. Gingerbread contains chemicals called “gingerols” which dilate the blood vessels in your extremities. So, if you’ve been outside in the snow, eating gingerbread will speed circulation to your frosty fingers and toes and help you reach room temperature in no time.
4. Candy canes can fix an upset tummy! With all the fancy, high-fat foods we scarf up during the holidays, it’s no wonder that 30 percent of us suffer from stomach aches and other gastro-intestinal woes. Peppermint candy canes are sweet relief. They contain peppermint oil, which soothes the muscles of the intestinal wall, reducing painful cramps and nausea.
