Sotanghon Soup for Our Dinner

I am glad that I took a nap after work because I feel less stressed. I am planning to cook sotanghon (bean thread) soup for tonight's dinner. I missed my Mama's cooking recipe in the Philippines. My husband already cooked the steam rice and I just need to cook our viand. I will be posting the finished dish at my other link.

Ouch! I Pulled a Muscle

I am in pain right now because we went to the gym yesterday and I think I pulled a muscle on my shoulder. It is hurting right now but there is nothing to worry about. I probably lifted weights improperly. I did Cardio exercise which includes running on the treadmill, and using the elliptical machine. After wards me and my husband starting using the weight machine that works the biceps. I must have lifted the weights long, because my shoulder was hurting after wards. My husband informed me that when lifting weights, it is important to have good form, or lifting the weights properly to ensure that you are working the right muscles and not injuring yourself. After he told me that at one point in time, Bruce Lee, the famed martial artist and Kung Fu movie star, had actually injured his back seriously when lifting weights, I did not feel so bad. Child Abuse

The assistant manager at the restaurant that I worked at told me something shocking that happened to her nephew's son. The mother of this child, who I will call Miss J, used to work in the same restaurant that I am working at. Miss J and my assistant manager's nephew, who I will call Mr. H, recently separated because she cheated on him. They have two children named Eli and Shi. Miss J lives with her new boyfriend together with their kids. She always received child support from Mr H and for this reason Miss J wants to have sole custody of the children.

Well, last weekend Miss J apparently called Mr. H at his working place to give him an important message. Mr. H who is the nephew of our assistant's boss was not there because he went out off town for work related purposes. My assistant manager and her older sister, who is the grandma of the kids, already suspected that something wrong was going on with the children. The first thing they did was to call all of the hospitals here in El Paso, Texas in search of Eli.

The hospital would not give any details about what happened to Eli, the older child, because they want proof if they are related or not. They went to the hospital and brought the birth certificate for Eli, Social Security Card and photos. The physician that took care of Eli told them that Eli received a third degree burn from his tummy down to his toes.

Miss J was in the hospital but she didnt want to get out of the room where Eli was confined because she knows that my assistant manager's family would ask her about what happened.The doctor's advised them that they have to fly Eli to Lubbock, Texas because they have a burn unit facility there. When they arrived there; doctors had to do series of skin grafting to Eli's body.

The physician told my assistant manager's family that he suspected the burns that Eli received were intentional. They also found out that it was Miss J's boyfriend that did this horrific thing. Miss J only denied the allegations and is defending her current boyfriend.

I was especially shocked to discover that Miss J chose her boyfriend above her children. She is one of the worst mothers I know. She doesn't deserve to have these wonderful kids. Mr H and his older sister are suing the man who did this to Eli and fighting to gain full custody of Eli and Shi.

I Love Working!

I am glad I finally work 6 days a week again. It's been awhile that they are not giving me enough hours at work and you know it's really hard especially if you are also trying to make ends meet. I was shock after I read the news about Michael Jackson who died of cardiac arrest Thursday at Los Angeles Hospital. Michael Jackson was not breathing when Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at his Los Angeles home about 12:30 p.m. He was even announcing earlier this month that he will have a series of concerts for his ultimate comeback.

I always hear his music while I was growing up in the Philippines. I am really flabbergasted right now. Who would have thought that he will die at this age? I know whatever things or scandals he had been through may we always remember all the good things that he contribute to the music industry. May his soul rest in peace now! Goodbye Michael.

Multi-tasking!

We went to Blockbuster Video store to rent new movies. While I am doing my posting I am actually watching a movie in our bedroom. Hubby is fixing the drawer also because there are some parts that are missing. Tomorrow I will be working in the evening again and I expect that it will be busy again. Boss is Away!

Happy but Exhausted!

My husband and I had our day off today and we are cleaning the apartment. We are washing all the bed sheets, thick blankets, wash the dishes, vacuum the floor and other things. We are exhausted and we just want to sleep right now.

Super Delicious Flautas

We went to Taco Cabana to have our dinner there. As usual I order my favorite food which is the Chicken Flautas. They look like eggrolls (lumpia) but you can get cheese (quezo) and sour cream as one of your side. I order Spanish rice with it and my husband order the refried beans with a lot of cheese. I got my salsa which is made of tomato, cilantro, onion and jalapenos (green peppers).

I will be making the chicken flautas this weekend and I will post the recipe on my other site.

Extended for One Year

Yesterday, I finally received my 1 year extension for my Permanent Residence Card. I did make copies so I can give each copy to my employers. I am now waiting for my Biometrics Appointment. They are going to get my fingers prints, a photo of myself and signature again.

I am hoping that I will receive my biometrics appointment next week. I am legally able to work and travel after my card expires next month. I just need to make sure that I will have that piece of paper from the immigration whenever I travel outside of US.

Just an Update!

Well, I am glad that they finally cash my check last June 10. I am now waiting for my Notice of Action from the Vermont Service Center and hopefully they will send the Biometrics Appointment right away. As I said on my previous posting my employer already reminded me to give them a copy of my extension letter after I received it. They just want to make sure that I am legal to work in their company.

I am hopeful that the whole process will go smooth and fast.

How to Stop a Nosebleed

Nosebleeds are a result of dry, crusty mucus membranes, trauma to the nose or certain disease processes. I live in El Paso, Texas close to 3 years now and every Summer I usually have nosebleeds due to dry and very hot weather.

Through my extensive research here's what I read from DJ Tesh website and other websites online. These are the list on how to stop a nosebleed.

1. Pinch your nose between your thumb and forefinger, and apply moderate pressure by squeezing against the nasal septum midsection of your nose for 15 minutes.

2. Lean your head forward so that the blood does not trickle down your throat. This will prevent a feeling of gagging.

3. Breathe through your mouth.

4. Apply a cold, soft compress around your nose as you continue to pinch it between your fingers.

5. When bleeding has stopped, elevate your head above your heart when you are lying in bed or on the couch. This helps alleviate nasal pressure.

6. Turn on cool vaporizer to moisten mucus membranes, which will help prevent the nosebleed from recurring.

7. Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the inside of the nostrils to moisten the passages and prevent the nosebleed again.

8. Try not blowing your nose for 24 hours, and when you do blow it again, blow gently.

9. Don't lift any heavy objects or engaging in other strenuous activities after a nosebleed.

Just follow this simple instruction and you will be fine.

After I arrived from work last night, my husband had a serious talk with me. He was telling me how vulnerable his grandparents are and he wants to make sure that they are always safe at all times. How to Turn Marigolds into Massage Lotion

1. Start off by growing the species of marigold known as calendula oficcinalis or pot marigold. Do not use pesticides or herbicides on these marigolds if you plan to use them on or in your body.

Blow-dry Your Hair Like the Pros

1. Begin with freshly washed clean hair. Towel-dry your hair and try to get as much water out as you can by either blotting with the towel or wrapping it in the towel for five minutes. This will allow your hair to shape more easily and cut down on blow-drying time.

Once the underside is mostly dry, switch to the top of the hair. Repeat with the other two sections.

Rest in Peace Baby Angela, We Love You!

Earlier today, I was chatting with my sister Evonne and my Mom. They informed me that my first cousin baby Angela passed away. She will turn 1 year old by June 14th. I was emotionally shock and I could not help myself but cry. I could not believe because she was only a baby and my Aunt Marilou was devastated. The doctor said that she died of cardiac arrest. They just found out that she has heart failure.

The rest of our family is helping my Aunt for the funeral. I feel really bad because I have not met her. I am the oldest grandchild on my Mom's side and I was planning to see them when I go back to the Philippines and visit them. I told my mom to keep an eye for my Aunt Marilou because she is pregnant also. I know my Aunt Marilou loved her so much because she is the only daughter she has among four children.

We are praying that baby Angela's soul may rest in peace. I know that she is in the loving arms of our Creator.

When I first arrived in the United States of America almost 3 years ago, the first thing that my husband teaches me is how to use the toaster oven. Toaster oven are very helpful because it will make your chores easier. For instance, I can put my bread in the toaster while I am cooking my sunny side up egg and bacon in the morning.

Just recently, our toaster oven broke and I have to purchase another one. My husband help me picked one of the best toasters in the supermarket. He told me that he would rather have the best value and quality of toaster than having a cheap one.

Delivered Finally!

I feel good after I found out that my immigration papers finally arrived to its destination. All I have to do now is to keep an eye if they cash my check within the next few days and I am looking forward to get my extension letter and biometrics. Just keeping my fingers cross and praying that everything will be fine in the long run.

After my husband arrived from his work last night, we decided to go watch a horror movie. The movie that we watch was "The Haunting in Connecticut". The movie was very creepy because they live in a house which was use to be a funeral home a long time ago. The family was force to relocate because their son was very ill. After they moved in, unexplainable things started to happened.

It was funny though because the lady behind us keeps on screaming. I was just closing my eyes most of the time to prevent myself from screaming.

Patiently Waiting!

I talk to my big boss today and he reminded me that I need to present my extension letter after my permanent residence card expires next month. I have told him that I am waiting for the extension letter from the immigration and I will give him a copy of the letter as soon as I have them.

I am still tracking the documents online which we sent last Monday. Hopefully, they will cash the check right away and send me the extension letter from Vermont Service Center. I pray that the process will be smooth and fast. I just have to divert my thoughts to other important things so I don't have to worry about the paper work.

Tic Tac Toc!

There are many things we can do to show our love, our appreciation and respect for our father. We can either treat our Dad to a fancy restaurant, give him money or we can buy him a special gift. Father's Day celebration is around the corner and of course we are anxious on what to give for our beloved father. I decided to purchase him one of the citizen watches I saw online today. I remember that my father needed a new watch because his old watch broke already. He said that it would be nice if I could give him a new watch for this coming Christmas. I know that my Dad will really like this watch that I pick for him.
